Obsessions and Compulsions
OCD is an anxiety related problem and sufferers will probably find their condition worsens at times of stress or upset. Obsessions and Compulsions are not the same thing but both can be treated. Hypnotherapy is an extremely effective form of treatment to help you can take control of your life.

Obsessional behaviour can include:-
- Checking things repeatedly e.g. locks, windows, doors
- Counting rituals e.g. checking your car door handle 5 times to make sure it's locked
- A fear of contamination by dirt or germs
- Constant negative thoughts
- Obsessive worry or jealousy about your partner
- Having to cancel out bad thoughts with good thoughts
- Sexual obsessions or unwanted sexual thoughts e.g. fear that you are homosexual
- Repeated hand washing
- A need for both side of the body to feel even e.g. if one hand gets wet the person may feel uncomfortable unless the other hand gets wet
Compulsions
With a compulsion, the sufferer feels immediate benefit from carrying out
their compulsion (which could be for example to wash their car). Once their
car is clean their thought process of “I must wash my car” disappears and
the person feels better. The more stress and anxiety someone has in their
life, the stronger and more frequent their compulsions will become,
resulting in their “escape” from the negative situation becoming shorter.
This often results in feelings of guilt.
Compulsive behaviour can include:-
- Drinking in excess
- Smoking
- Nail biting
- Comfort eating / over eating
- Gambling
- Drug addictions
- Self harming
- Spendaholic behaviour
