What is a phobia?
A phobia is an irrational and excessive fear of an object or situation. Take for example the fact that very few people have been or know people that have been in a plane crash, but a fear of flying is one of the most common phobias. What the person actually fears is being out of control. Their subconscious projects their inner fear of not being in control onto something, in this case a fear of flying.

A phobia is an irrational and excessive fear of an object or situationIt is obvious why some people suffer from their phobia. For example a person that was bitten by a dog may now find themselves really scared of dogs. Other phobias do not have such a logical explanation but every symptom has a cause so we need to identify it so that the symptom can be eradicated. Phobias are formed (often from childhood) because of strong emotions that the individual has bottled up. These emotions have been projected onto an external object or situation. It may sound complex but you could say a phobia is an external symbol of an internal anxiety.

How to get rid of your phobia?
Certain therapies can help cure you of your fears or phobias in the short term, like getting you to face your fears. But for long term dissolution of your phobia you need to remove the emotional cause of the phobia. To be free of your phobia for good, it takes commitment from you to attend hourly sessions for around 6 to 12 weeks (average 8) to slowly link memories and thoughts from the past. Hypno-analysis is unlike other therapies because being in the relaxed state of hypnosis allows the subconscious to gain access to hidden memories and emotions, ones that have been locked away, sometimes for a period of many years. Once we come to the bottled up emotions we talk through them until they are resolved. Removing the cause (your bottled up emotions) will remove the effects (your phobia). Common phobias and anxiety problems in detail: -

Coprophobia – A fear of soiling oneself in a public place. The fear includes anything to do with toilets such as being overheard going to the toilet, public toilets, feeling unclean or dirty. Sufferers often develop routines whereby they avoid having to use a toilet outside their own home. Severe physical problems can arise such as piles, constipation and other bowel disorders.

Emetophobia – The fear of being sick or others being sick. Sufferers will go out of their way to avoid situations where they could come into contact with vomiting. Click here to read more on Emetophobia.

Panic Attacks
– A period of intense and extreme fear which often comes on very suddenly. Symptoms may include trembling, shortness of breath, chest pain, heart palpitations and an impending sense of doom. Panic attacks often occur when people are confronted with their fear or phobia. Panic attacks are very unpleasant and though they only last a few minutes they can be very frightening.

Success Stories
“Dear Emily – I want to thank you following my last session of hypno-analysis with you. After my last session I felt a huge sense of relief and lightness. My phobia of flying has now gone but not only that, I generally feel so much more confident, more relaxed and most importantly happy! We’ve just had a wonderful holiday abroad and my partner was amazed how calm I was this time round. I couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks so much”.
Felicity C, Buckingham

“Hi Emily – As you know I consulted you for a variety of anxiety related problems including suffering from panic attacks and low self confidence. I’d
put up with them all for so long, I wish I’d contacted you sooner! I did find the idea of bearing my soul to you rather daunting but you made me feel
comfortable and it was easy to open up to you… After my sessions with you I continue to feel amazing. I couldn’t have done it without you”.
